Free City Tour Sevilla

This is Seville Free Tours' walking route through the historic center, lasting roughly two hours and taking in the exteriors of many of the city's most important landmarks before finishing at Plaza de España. It is a relaxed way to get your bearings in Seville while hearing the stories, history, and legends connected to the streets and buildings along the way.

The tour begins at Plaza Nueva, directly in front of City Hall. From here, the guide introduces Seville's long history, including its Roman beginnings and the influence of the Islamic period, before leading the group toward the cathedral. At Seville Cathedral, you'll hear how it became the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. Beside it stands La Giralda, one of the city’s most recognizable symbols, which was originally built as a minaret during the Almohad period.

The route then continues past the Royal Alcázar and the General Archive of the Indies. Together with the cathedral, these landmarks form part of Seville’s UNESCO-listed monumental complex. As you walk through this central part of the city, the guide connects the buildings with the events and cultures that shaped Seville over the centuries.

From there, the walk heads toward the Guadalquivir River and the Torre del Oro. At the tower, the guide explains Seville's importance as Spain's gateway to the Americas, as well as the trade and maritime activity that once passed through the river and the port. The route then follows the riverfront, offering a different view of the city and its historic relationship with the water.

Further along, you'll pass the former Royal Tobacco Factory and San Telmo Palace. This section of the tour brings in stories from the Enlightenment period, along with the origins of the Carmen legend associated with this part of Seville. These stops add a more atmospheric and human side to the city’s history, beyond the grand monuments themselves.

The tour ends at Plaza de España and María Luisa Park. Built for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition, the square remains one of Seville’s most impressive landmarks and its most photographed spot. By the end of the walk, you’ll have seen the main exterior sights of the historic center while getting a sense of how Seville’s Roman, Islamic, royal, commercial, and modern histories fit together.
